About The Animal

The Copper Springbuck, a color variant of the common Springbuck, belongs to the Antelope family and is scientifically classified as Antidorcas marsupialis cuprea. Known for its unique copper-toned fur, this animal stands out in the diverse South African landscape. The Springbuck is not just an animal; it’s a national symbol of South Africa, representing agility, grace, and beauty.

Distinctive Physical Features</strongThe Copper Springbuck is characterized by its striking copper-red coat, contrasting with a white underbelly and a dark brown stripe running along its flanks. Males typically weigh between 31-48 kg, while females are slightly lighter. They have pronounced, lyre-shaped horns, which can reach up to 35 cm in males. Their compact, agile bodies enable them to leap up to 4 meters in the air in a behavior known as ‘pronking’.

Habitat and BehaviorThese animals are predominantly found in the open plains and dry regions of South Africa. They are highly adaptable and can survive in arid conditions thanks to their efficient water-conservation systems.
